The Start of a Journey

When I started designing games, I never thought I'd find myself as a part of a team. I really like making games and systems, but I always figured I'd just work on games myself, with the support of my amazing and loving friends.

I was browsing Reddit the other night just doomscrolling and a post caught my eye about a programmer looking to start a team. They were looking for five roles. When I looked at the post, it had been edited to let us know there were only two roles left. Game designer was one.

I filled out a survey, and got ready to head to bed. I was getting ready to quit a stressful role at a job in the morning. My mind was running a million miles a minute about all the bad things that I had to face- then, b'ding! Notification goes off from the programmer.

We hit it off right away. Both of us are One Piece fans and had Shanks in our Discord picture. We chatted about some questions related to the role, and not long after I got added to the server.

I'm working on a project currently! It's a fun little experiment in gaming. The genre we are working on I have never really experimented with, so I'm winging it, with a little education on the side.

Our team is incredibly powerful for such a small group. I am certainly the least experienced among the group when it comes to experience in the industry, but that just fuels the fire to do well even more!

Design is fun and is a massive umbrella of things to think about. I'm starting with a bit of the lore, setting, and some of the enemy design. Some thoughts about systems. Data-driven is helping me formulate my ideas a little better. Should also be useful for localization in the future as well, for dialogue exporting and the like.

Peace, love, and crits to all<3
